Kazoku-Kan Grab the Gold!

On the 8th March 2020 Kazoku-Kan Judo Club took several members to Erdington Academy to compete at the National Closed Championships. Liam Grindrod took to the Tatami first and soundly beat his opponents to score the first result of the day, Gold medal and National Champion. Felicity Warburton took to the mat and had a fantastic showing in her category and managed to secure the Silver medal. Joshua Warburton put up a great effort, with a determined attitude scored Bronze. Liam Jones, competing in the Senior Category had some tough competition but still managed to grab Bronze medal.
On the 15th March 2020 the Club attended the British Schools Championships in Sheffield. Sophie Kenny representing Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, who fights from a ground based position, had a tough line of fights, but secured the Gold and title of British Gold medallist. Joshua Warburton, also competing for Blessed Edward, put in the best performance of his Judo Career so far, beating everyone in his category to secure Gold and title of British Gold Medallist. Felicity Warburton, representing Blessed Edward also, put up a great effort, walking away with the Bronze Medal from her category. Liam Jones competing for Rigby Hall, put in a great effort against a tough group of competitors to win the Bronze for his category. To top off the day, Blessed Edward Old Corne College claimed the top spot and the Simon Hicks trophy.
Kazoku-Kan would also like to congratulate Ron Cleere who was awarded the Malcolm Collins award for outstanding services to Adaptive Judo.
Head Instructor Rich Morrish said “This event shows how determined the Kids are with their training and for them to see it pay off is amazing to see. We have attended the Schools for the past few years and this is the first time we have managed to get the top spot for a School which is an achievement we will cherish. Well done to all competitors across the entire weekend, some amazing Judo to watch, it was a privilege to be there coaching the team.”
